Vision Insurance
The knowledgeable staff at Christensen Eye Care is experienced in working with both medical & vision insurance providers. We will work directly with you and your insurer to submit claims regarding your vision care. We strive to ensure that you understand your insurance coverage and will answer any questions you may have regarding your benefits. Many current vision plans are designed to cover most of the basic vision-related costs, but not all costs associated with eye care. Most plans often require a co-payment for an office appointment as well as additional costs that are covered by the insured patient.
Christensen Eye Care accepts many Medical and Vision Plans, including:
- Aetna
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Cigna, Coventry
- Coresource
- EyeMed
- Humana
- Medicare
- Medicare
- Rail Road Principa
- ProviDRs Care Network
- Tricare
- United Healthcare
- VSP
- WPPA
Depending on insurance plan, benefits may be out of network. Some plans may require a referral from your primary care physician. Contact our office at (620) 227-5433 to find out if your insurance provider is accepted in our office or for more information about your vision coverage.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Many employers offer Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to employees. These are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts lenses, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSAs can typically be used in conjunction with any vision and/or medical insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.
Frequently Asked Questions
At Christensen Eye Care, we are aware of the many healthcare challenges our patients face, including insurance. Our staff is here to help and answer questions. Some frequently asked questions are provided below.
- Is my insurance in network?
Please contact your carrier to verify your coverage and benefits. Doing so allows our staff to utilize their time to provide a quality in person experience for our patients.
- I have multiple insurances, which insurance will apply to my appointment?
Coordination of benefits rules apply. Contact your insurance provider to help determine which insurance plan should be billed as primary.
- Why does my insurance only pay part of the bill?
You may have out of pocket expenses. These may include deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, wellness exams, and non-covered services. These fees be paid by cash, check, credit card, or maybe reimbursable through flexible spending accounts. If requested our staff will review exam and procedural costs prior to your appointment.
- What if my insurance coverage changes?
Please bring your updated/current insurance card to your next appointment.
- How are routine vision and medical eye care similar, yet different?
Medical and routine exams may appear similar to the patient. They both are comprehensive, complete, and equal in necessity. They contain history, preliminary testing, refraction, slit lamp examination, dilation, and ancillary testing. The difference between the two examinations is interpreted by eye care professionals and insurance providers based on reasons and results. A medical examination includes diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease including but not limited to dry eye, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and pink eye. A routine examination includes diagnosis and treatment of non medical complaints including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
